Is anyone here?

I'd forgotten about this community. So I thought I'd post a little intro.

I am Matty Luminos inworld, I've been in SL since 2006 if you count my first avatar, and with this one since 2008. I'm primarily an elf/neko but lately I've been doing more experimentation and will appear as anything from furry to drow and all sorts of things inbetween. Usually elven or fae of some sort, or feline, or both.

There are three places I'm often found hanging out; Chiaroscuro, Adventures of Dust and Virtual Ability, the latter being a charitable organisation that benefits and supports disabled users in virtual worlds; a cause that is very personal to me.

Greetings, Second Lifers!

Second Life is approaching its 14th birthday! Here's a link to the birthday celebration destinations. I've already visited the official shopping event, and there are some nice gifts for those who are into SL fashion.

Happy birthday, Second Life!

Hello, Anyone Home?

I'm getting settled in here at DW. I'm not entirely sure how active the site is in general. I'm quite happy being on a site that stays largely under the radar. However, I see that there are quite a few people who have listed Second Life as an interest, so I thought I'd poke the community and see what happens.

The Ostara Hunt is on!

Persephone's Grove is celebrating Ostara, the spring equinox, with a hunt! Search all the parcels of Persephone's Grove, the Merry Meet Inn & Club and Asphodel Meadows for 25 Ostara eggs full of prizes from the merchants here -- buy for 0L and get the goodies inside!

Hunt ends April 12th, so hurry over before the prizes hop away!

Presentation HUD for Viewer 2.0

New! For Second Life, and more specifically for Viewer 2.0 now I can take advantage of the new shared media feature, here's my quick-and-dirty "Presentation HUD".

While wearing this HUD, simply type "/48 ", i.e., "/48 http://www.google.com/"and it will automatically rez a web browser in front of you, enabling you to give ad-hoc presentations, look things up, or show videos, pictures, and other web content to your in-world friends. Here's a quick example showing my blog:

And since this is HTML-on-a-prim, you can browse freely, and use the regular back/forward/zoom controls.

If you right-click on the rezzed browser and "Touch" it, you get a menu of options. By default, only the owner of the browser is able to use the browser controls and interact with the web page (thus, suitable for presentations), but to enable everyone to browse and interact, you can use the "All" option; "OwnerOnly" sets it back. The "Reset" option forcibly resets the browser to the home page you specified on the /48 line; and, finally, the "Close" option de-rezzes the browser when you're done.

NOTE: Note that it do absolutely no validation on the URL you specify; I didn't want to limit what the Shared Media feature might handle in future, but this does mean if you typo the URL, you'll need to delete the browser and make a new one.

And, obviously, you need script and rez permissions for wherever you are for this to work at all.

Get it on XstreetSL here or from the usual bat-vendor at the usual bat-location!

Prim Perfect Celebrates Halloween

The Halloween issue of Prim Perfect is out! I've been sooo anticipating the release of this one, as it's possibly the most fun I've had yet writing for the publication. Hanging out with Ceres Eilde and Cutea Benelli was a hoot - and roaming the strange and dark lands of Arkham, Dunwich and Kingsport was the scariest fun I've had in a long time.

You are really going to enjoy this issue. And! Once you've read it, you're going to want to visit those Lovecraftian lands. What timing! There's a Darke Carnival starting in Arkham on Thursday. I'll see you there -- if I'm still alive.

Step Up!

In the wake of the wholesale theft of sims and content, creators, writers and those who simply wish to support creators with their purchases have banded together to form Step Up! The Step Up! blog has lots of information on the campaign, which will culminate in Step Up! Day on November 5th.

In-world, you can pick up an info pack at the Prim Perfect Main Offices in Oliveto.

Prim Perfect: Issue 17 is on the stands!

Hot off the presses! The new Prim Perfect is out! This is issue 19 for August, 2009. We focus on the Hosoi sims, which are absolutely astounding. The articles about Hosoi and other oriental themes are a must-read, without question. There's also some good articles on responsible roleplay, SL6B, and I have to point out Lumiere Noir's article on modular building, since it was of SUCH help in my quest to rise above my noobish building skills.

I'm very proud of this issue, and of the Prim Perfect team. We have the best writers, photographers, designers, and editors! I'm proud to be associated with this publication!

Blogging for Life in Second Life

This Saturday, July 25th, from 6am PDT/SLT, I - Athanasius Skytower - am spending 24 continuous hours in Second Life to raise money to support the American Cancer Society in their efforts to eliminate the scourge of cancer. The money is being raised by participating in this year's Blogathon (http://www.blogathon.org/ ), in which individual bloggers are sponsored to update their blogs every half hour for 24 hours straight. I'm therefore putting my interest in virtual worlds to use in the cause by spending 24 hours in Second Life, starting by blogging a brief introduction to it, and then going on to showcase some of the more interesting, beautiful or useful places I know here and there on the grid. The Blogathon runs from 6 am PDT/SLT on Saturday through to the same time the next day.

Pledges of support are accepted through the Blogathon site at:

http://www.blogathon.org/pledge.php?blogid=158

And within Second Life, donations to the American Cancer Society are also accepted via a donation box set up for this cause at:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Strata/243/100/51

In addition, the proceeds from all sales of the PingHud (a Second Life HUD designed to enable easy posting to microblogging sites and social networks, via Ping.fm, from inside Second Life) during the month of July will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Residents of Second Life (which I'm guessing y'all are) may also join the group "Athanasius's Blogathon" ( secondlife:///app/group/0e7f4967-9985-ea4e-532c-e38d5bce7397/about ) for more information about the event, and to help cheer me on - and keep me awake - as the hours of the night pass!

More information about Athanasius's Blogathon can be found on my blog, at:

http://weblog.siliconcerebrate.com/cerebrate/blogathon/

where the event itself will take place.

Thanks for listening and in advance for any contributions. I hope to run into some of you on the day!

Food and Flower Fun!

Gumi Yao has been playing with her food again! If you'd like to play with YOUR food too, Gumi's builder's kits can help you make whipped cream, and cakes and even twisty-wrapped candies. Recently I mentioned her strawberries and how tasty they looked. You'll find these sweets at Gumi's Flower Shop

Now, as fun as it is to create and play with such sweet treats... can that compare to picking fresh fruit playfully off of a pretty lady? Or picking roses? Or what about the possibilities of whipped cream?

These are very special sets, to be shared with very special people.
The outfits are made up of top parts and bottom parts. If you or someone touches a prim in the set, that prim will disappear. Some may be a little tricky to touch, but that just adds to the fun and challenge. Once a prim disappears, it will never ever reappear! You'll get three sets per purchase though, so you can enjoy being a sweet treat or bouquet of flowers for your special someone three times.

Slightly scandalous pictures under the cut! )

Music Appreciation with Josh from Vernian Process

I'm excited to announce that this Sunday at 8pm SLT Joshua Pfeiffer, founding member of the Vernian Process, is going to be at the New Champagne Rooms in New Babbage to share his views on "Music of the Steamy Sort". Not only is he known for his work as Vernian Process, but in 2008 he helped found a new artists collective dedicated to Old World inspired music called Gilded Age Records. If you'd like to find out more, please feel free to read their bio!

With all of life's stresses, it's important to take some time to just relax... so please feel free to come and join us as we sit around and listen to music from various artists and get to know each other better! Hope to see you there!

1001 Nights at the New Champagne Rooms

To celebrate the end of the plumbing disaster at our New Babbage venue last month, please come and join us at the freshly refurbished New Champagne Rooms in Babbage Square this Sunday, June 14th, at 1pm SLT! We will take a trip into the desert for our themed performance this month I'm ever so tired of water. Drawing inspiration from the "newly" translated works titled The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, the lovely Champagne Ladies (with a very special guest) will be using movement and sound to entertain. We hope to see you there!

We've sent a friendly camel along to carry you in style to the show. Oh look, here he is now!

At the New Champagne Rooms we work hard for you to create an atmosphere of grace and elegance. Enjoy real entertainment with a lot of class and just the right amount of sass! We have the most stunning ladies working and dancing for us in a true Burlesque style.

The New Champagne Rooms doesn't feature private rooms, massages or lapdances. You won't be accosted to tip for girls to remove clothing! Your job is just to come, sit, and have fun with our witty, exciting and friendly ladies.
